Bette’s Work

Bette writes, as she takes photos, to communicate what is beautiful, humorous, interesting, disturbing. Some of the small details might be changed. The telephone wires erased, for example, an offending branch removed. But the overall picture, the basic emotion, is there.

What she finds interesting is just as likely to be in her backyard as halfway around the world. And what can be most exciting is using photos to illustrate poetry, and working the other way—beginning with a photo and writing about it. Either way, more can be conveyed with poems or stories or pictures than can be said with ordinary conversation.
